No. I’ve set most of the templates up without any code at all (the exception is Golden Hour).
Squarespace built-in features are robust enough to usually not need code.
IF there’s an instance where I thought code could help with a small tweak, it is already done for you. You can keep it or delete it since it won’t make a massive difference.
If the template does include code, you get instructions on what it does and how to change or delete it if you want.

The free Squarespace templates are a great choice if you need a simple site to start with. And you can customize those as well.

“You know, some template shops have 6 or even 12 months!”
That’s true. And it’s totally fair if that’s a deciding factor for you.
But let me ask you this. If you have 12 months, will it take you 12 months?
Also full disclosure. Squarespace recently changed their policy and now have tiered levels. The higher the tier, the longer the trial and bigger the discount. But it’s not based on quality. It’s based on how many points you earn.
You can read the point breakdown here. I wasn’t designing as much (or at all) because I had a full plate of copywriting clients for the last few years. So I don’t have as many points as those offering longer free trials. (For now muahahaha 😈)
But designing has my heart and have chosen to break away from copywriting and focus solely on design.
